Rising Titres Turn Clarification Into A Capacity Constraint
Two decades ago a monoclonal antibody process ran around 1 gram per litre and clarification was an afterthought. Modern intensified processes run several times that, and the cell debris arriving at harvest scales with the biomass rather than with the product. Filter area per batch has climbed to roughly 34 square metres for a commercial run, which is equipment, floor space and operator time nobody budgeted two decades ago. Suppliers who can raise capacity per square metre are selling something facilities value more than price, because the alternative is a bigger clarification suite.
